Neck and shoulder pain is quite literally a pain in the neck!!

Thousands of people needless suffer every day. You really don’t have to suffer in silence there is help at hand.

From a Chinese medicine perspective the pain you are suffering could be down to too much Qi (life force energy) pooling in your neck and shoulder muscles or not enough Qi flowing into these muscles.

The underlying cause of your pain from a TCM perspective dictates the style of acupuncture applied. A very gentle approach is required when not of enough Qi is flowing into the area. Whereas when too much Qi is pooled in the muscles a much stronger technique is applied including massage and electro-acupuncture.

Acupuncture can help back pain by:

  • providing pain relief – by stimulating nerves located in muscles and other tissues, acupuncture leads to release of endorphins and other neurohumoral factors and changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord (Pomeranz 1987; Zhao 2008).
  • reducing inflammation – by promoting release of vascular and immunomodulatory factors (Kim 2008, Kavoussi 2007;Zijlstra 2003).
  • improving muscle stiffness and joint mobility – by increasing local microcirculation (Komori 2009), which aids dispersal of swelling and bruising.
